Marc With AC - Official Bootleg Series Vol. 1: Live At Stardust

We’re happy to kick off a neat little experiment in DIY recording with the first ever volume of Marc With a C’s Official Bootleg Series. See, we’ve often recorded shows with the intention of releasing them as live documents, but something invariably goes wrong. Either the crowd isn’t into the show that night, or Marc completely forgets how to play his instrument… or the instruments/recording consoles simply decide to go all sorts of wonky. Something comes up each and every time that keeps the results from being released in an official form. And seriously people… this has been going on since 2002. It’s getting out of hand. We have tapes/discs of shows gone awry just sitting around, piled up, without any sort of home. And this is why the Official Bootleg Series was born. And that brings us to…

SHOW NOTES:

This show was recorded with the intention of releasing it as an eventual live document. Ryan Price recorded the show, but a faulty wire left most of Marc’s vocals wildly distorted on the actual recordings, but not in the room. For this reason, many songs were beyond repair from the over two-hour performance, (”Counting Down”, “Laura, I Need Medicine”, “No London In Brazil”, an aborted “Music Can Heal”), and have been deleted from these recordings. However, we’ve mixed it to be as listenable as possible, and since it was such a fun show, we’ve decided to release the most salvagable parts of the concert to you! But, here’s a few things you should know before listening:

- This was the inaugural performance for many of the songs from the “Normal Bias” album. If Marc sometimes sounds unsure with the material, it’s because he was. Especially in “Dear Son”, which was a last-minute addition to the setlist.

- There was an ill-thought-out biblical rant in “I’m In Love With Everyone I Know”. Consider yourself forewarned.

- This doesn’t include the best rendition of “Life’s So Hard” Marc’s ever performed, and he seriously didn’t mean any of the crap he said about Mae or The National. Consider it just a bunch of smack-talk. Like in… wrestling? Yes, wrestling.

- During the nearly hour-long all-request encore, Ryan Price and Chris Zabriskie switch drummer seats quite often

- The audience backing vocals during “Sweet Transvestite” were not provoked by Marc in any way. The crowd did that on their own.

- Towards the end of the show, Marc straps on an electric guitar in public for the first time in nearly four years!

- It wasn’t the best show ever, but there’s actually more “warts” contained in this recording than Marc would have probably kept in had it become an official live record.

So there you go. The first entry in the Official Bootleg Series! We’ve got some cool shows lined up for you to have in the next few volumes, and if you’ve got any requests, please drop us a line and let us know! Enjoy!
